Be a Beaver Hero in the Mid-Atlantic: BeaverCorps Program Information

BeaverCorps Wetland Professionals is a program offered by Beaver Institute, a national nonprofit working to empower “individuals and organizations to succeed in beaver management, coexistence, communication, education, and scientific research.”

Participants learn innovative beaver management techniques that have been used successfully for many years to resolve human-beaver conflicts. HBCF Director, Alison Zak, completed the training program earlier this year. Here’s what she has to say about her experience:

“I loved everything about this program. The first phase is online and self-paced, so I could make time for the lessons and quizzes in my already busy schedule. The second phase involved completing four flow device installations under the close mentorship of Beaver Institute experts. I gained a lot of confidence in my ability to help landowners address a variety of flooding issues. Now, I am connected with an amazing community of practitioners around the country. We are constantly sharing tricks, asking advice, and learning from each other. I eagerly and highly recommend BeaverCorps!”

While the program was originally designed to support small businesses offering nonlethal management services, Beaver Institute just launched a new ‘non-business track’ with lessons on public outreach, partnerships, funding, and more.

Our region desperately needs more BeaverCorps members. If you think the program is something you might be interested in, please reach out, as we would be happy to answer questions and encourage you.
